Women’s Tennis Captures First Win in Sweep Over Presbyterian

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Looking to pick up their first win of the season, the Davidson Wildcats welcomed Presbyterian College to the Knobloch Tennis Center this afternoon. The ‘Cats jumped out to a fast start, and never looked back, ultimately downing the Blue Hose 7-0.
“The team did a great job today with their nerves,” said Head Coach Susanne Depka. “They used their tools to help them stay in the present and within their processes. Presbyterian fought until the end and we did a tremendous job not letting them back in at any point. I am super proud of everyone today!”
Davidson captured the doubles point to start the day off strong, sweeping all three matches. Mira Gladstone and Elizabeth Truluck won their second doubles contest of the season, 6-3, while the duos of Nicole Krykanov & Josie Schaffer and Franny Shea & Charlotte James won their respective doubles matches by 6-2 scores.
Schaffer continued her solid day, as the sophomore won at the No. 1 singles court, 6-2, 6-2. The rest of the Wildcats followed suit, as Davidson continued to sweep the remaining singles matches. Krykanov clinched the match for Davidson on a tiebreaker set, winning the first 6-4 and coming out on top 7-6 in the second. Truluck, Gladstone and Shea all recorded their first singles victories of the season, while rookie Ava Ignatowich recorded her first career singles win as a Wildcat.
Davidson will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 6 to take on crosstown rival, Charlotte, in the Queen City.
