The English Cozy Mystery
Cold winter days in February invite us to curl up with a good book. You may have your favorite genres, but Jan will tempt you to relax and enjoy British Cozy Mysteries. Cozy mysteries, also referred to as “cozies”, are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex and violence occur off stage, the detective is an amateur sleuth, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community. The term “cozy” was first coined in the late 20th century when various writers produced work in an attempt to re-create the Golden Age Detective Fiction. Come prepared to learn about British Cozy Mysteries and (perhaps) to share your favorite cozy author and title. Jan served as the Davidson College Archivist for 23 years and now works part-time at Main Street Books. During her doctoral studies, she contributed 2 entries in the 1999 edition of the Oxford Companion to Crime and Mystery Writing.
