Davidson Commencement 2021: Good news!

by | Mar 15, 2021

The class of 2019 marched out of Chambers to the waiting crowd of friends and family on hand for Davidson College’s 182 Commencement. All eyes will be on the Class of 2021 on May 11, 2021.

Our town grew up around the Davidson College, its beautiful campus not only the center of the Village, but of many who live and work here. News of Davidson  promised to share every little sign of recovery from these long months of compromised life, and today we share a big one.

Last week, the College shared the happy news that Commencement for the Class of 2021 will take place in person on Tuesday, May 11, rain or shine. The virtual ceremony for the Class of 2020, while lovely, was among the many concessions forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

At least two, similar ceremonies are planned, allowing the crowd size to stay within public health guidelines. The College shared these details:

  • Masks and social distancing will be required in line with state guidelines.
  • Each student will receive two tickets for guests. If changes to safety restrictions allow for additional guests, we will notify students as soon as possible.
  • A live stream of commencement will be available. Live coverage allows students to share this important event with loved ones who are unable to attend the ceremony.

And as we have become accustomed to hearing: All information is subject to change due to shifting public health guidance.
