St. Baldricks: Raising Money for Kids with Cancer
Last month we told you about Tom Leonhardt. Twenty years ago he was golfing with a group of guys – one of whom thought it would be a great idea to raise money to conquer childhood cancer by shaving their heads.
Four years ago Tom Leonhardt left Chicago and moved to Davidson. Last month, Tom reached out to News of Davidson to see if we would help spread the word, we agreed. So we shared his story, and the link to his website for folks to donate to St. Baldricks.
Tom’s goal this year was to raise $10,000. And while things are tough in the midst of COVID, his quest raised more that $14,000.
Her are a few ways those gifts will make a difference:
- $50 provides two hours of a clinical trial, often a child’s best hope for a cure
- $100 covers a student to work in a pediatric oncology research lab for one week
- $250 allows for ten hours of research to improve patient and survivor quality of life
