Men’s Tennis’ Solares Earns Second A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second time this season, Davidson freshman Alejandro Solares has been named the Atlantic 10’s Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
After a 2-0 weekend for the Wildcats, against The Citadel and College of Charleston, Solares swept his opponents on both the doubles and singles courts. The Guatemala native picked up his two singles victories on court five for the ‘Cats, and forced a three-set win against The Citadel’s Kamieniecki. His two-set win against College of Charleston on Sunday helped Davidson defeat the Cougars for just the third time since 2006.
Despite the ‘Cats dropping both doubles points this weekend, Solares also went 2-0 there with his partner, Maxwell Kachkarov, as Davidson’s No. 1 doubles team.
Now a two-time Rookie of the Week honoree this season, Solares is 6-5 in singles matches and 6-4 in doubles on the season.
Solares and the rest of the Wildcats hit the court for a twin-bill this weekend against Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb in South Carolina.
