Civil Rights and Racial Justice in the North in the 1960s – DavidsonLearns Event
Dr. Aldridge will speak about the civil rights issues of northern cities in the 1960s involving issues like Police/Community relations, fair housing, equitable schooling, and the type of post-civil
disobedience activism that emerged in that context. He believes that in many ways the mid-to-late 1960s were the beginnings of our contemporary political era.
Dan Aldridge, PhD, Davidson College Professor of History, teaches courses in American History, African American history, and Africana Studies. He is the author of Becoming American: The African American Quest for Civil Rights, 1861-1976.
