Secret Society of Crafters – Hearts on Fiber
April 4 @ 10:00 a.m.
208 South Main Street
Crafting is more fun with other people, which is why we created the “Secret” Society of Crafters. The title says “secret,” but we’re a not-so-secret, not-so-exclusive group who meets to stitch, craft, crochet, knit, sit and talk. We may or may not talk about knitting, yarn bombing, hand dying, or the latest stitch. We may even talk about world domination. You won’t know unless you come. Connect with crafters in the area, find the motivation to pick up that project again, and benefit from the wisdom of a passionate crafting group. The “Secret” Society of Crafters meets outside the store every Wednesday and Sunday at 10:00 AM weather permitting. We hope to see you there!
Monday – April 5
Davidson Rotary Club Meeting (via Zoom)
April 5 @ 12:00 p.m.
Guest speaker: Rev. Pat Jobe, UU Fellowship Of Lake Norman
Topic: “On Wheels, Amazin’ Stories From The Life Of Tommy Hicks” – Hicks passed in 2017 after an almost 50-year-long battle with Muscular Dystrophy. He used humor, a healthy ego, good looks and a zippity-doo-dah personality to sell insurance, run two small businesses, write voraciously, serve as a substitute teacher and never let his disease define him.

“I’m Gonna Tell You That We’re Not a Myth”: Native Students’ and Non-Native Teachers’ Perspectives on Anti-Indigenous Curriculum and Classrooms
April 8 @ 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Though North Carolina is home to the 9th largest Indigenous population in America, as well as to the largest Tribe East of the Mississippi, North Carolina curriculum and schools often erode Indigenous histories from the classroom. Indigenous people are presented as forever constrained within antiquity, as savage, as docile, as stoic, and at worst—as nonexistent.
This event is sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Departments of History and Educational Studies and the Davidson Microaggressions Project. About the Speaker –
Brittany Danielle Hunt is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and a graduate of Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the experiences of Indigenous students in K-12 schools as well as deconstructing stereotypes of Indigenous peoples. Join the Event via Zoom.
