DAVIDSON FARMERS MARKET

Davidson Farmers Market – April 3

by | Apr 1, 2021 | Davidson Farmers Market, Local, News, Top Middle Box

I

THIS WEEK AT THE DAVIDSON FARMERS MARKET

Hello DFM Shoppers,

Prime season for DFM starts this Saturday! During prime season, the market operates EVERY Saturday from April 3 through November 20 (the weekend before Thanksgiving) 9am-noon. The other exciting thing about Prime season is the market is full with a variety of vendors; 36 total. Our vendors are a mix of family-owned, small-businesses, both new and seasoned (some farms operating for over 100 years) and range from produce, meat and dairy, health and body care, baked goods, prepared foods, specialty items, beverages, and fresh cut flowers.

Prime season is an exciting time and with 36 vendors this year the offerings will be vast. Before the market, check the vendors’ weekly offerings listed below in our newsletter to see in advance what to expect when visiting the market. As we start prime season, I want to acknowledge the season that we have had, especially our farmers. It has been a challenging time between a pandemic and weather fluctuating, setting produce back a few weeks to a month. If you don’t see an item you’re used to seeing around this time, please know that our farmers are working diligently to get your favorite items to you.

As mentioned in previous newsletters, the layout of the market will look a little different for the next month while construction continues. Rather than being spread out between the Jackson Street parking lot, the greenspace, and the parking lot next to Summit Coffee, the farmers market will be centrally located in the Jackson Street parking lot area with THREE rows of vendors; two rows in the parking lot, and the third row in the grassy area next to the Davidson Family Medicine parking lot.

There will be a pathway for shoppers to access all three rows with multiple entrance points. If you are looking for a specific vendor or how to access the third row, volunteers will be stationed around the area eagerly waiting to assist you. Once construction is completed in May, DFM will introduce our permanent layout in the new gathering space.

A few reminders: the market opens at 9am (DFM will ring a bell indicating that shopping can start), masks are required to shop at DFM, and please refrain from gathering inside the market.

We look forward to another wonderful season, can’t wait to see everyone!

Happy eating,
Justin

Recipe: Cucumber & Carrot Sesame Salad

Serves 4

With spring here, we thought we’d kickoff DFM’s recipe series with a fresh, vibrant salad. This salad is easy to make and pairs with a variety of main dishes. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 pound cucumbers, thinly sliced

1 large carrot, julienned

1 Tablespoon grape seed oil

2 Tablespoons rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame seed oil

2 teaspoons sugar or honey

2 teaspoons soy sauce

1 Tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

 Instructions

Combine cucumbers and carrots in a bowl. Set aside.

In another bowl, whisk together the grape seed oil, rice vinegar, sesame seed oil, sugar, and soy sauce.  Taste for seasoning and adjust to preference.

Toss the cucumbers and carrots with the dressing. Fold in the sesame seeds. Chill for 20 minutes or overnight, then serve.
