Wildcats’ Phelps Named PFL Offensive Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Davidson senior quarterback Tyler Phelps was named the Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference Sunday.

Phelps helped orchestrate the Wildcats’ streak-snapping win over San Diego, throwing a career-best three touchdowns in the winning effort. The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native completed 10 of 15 passes for 189 and added another 26 yards on the ground. He completed touchdown passes of 28, 27 and 10 yards to three different receivers and threw a long of pass of 52 yards on 3rd and 12 to help keep a drive alive, leading to the ‘Cats third touchdown of the day.

Phelps averaged 18.9 yards per completion and eight of his 10 completions resulted in a first down or score.

It marks the second consecutive week Davidson has had a player recognized by the league. Sophomore kicker Caden Bonoffski was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week last Sunday.

Phelps leads the Wildcats into Presbyterian Saturday. Kickoff from Clinton, S.C. is slated for 1 p.m.
