Davidson and VCU, two teams in the hunt for an Atlantic 10 postseason berth, fought to a 0-0 draw in women’s soccer Thursday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

It’s the Wildcats’ second tie of the year and the first in A-10 play. Davidson (6-3-2, 4-2-1 A-10) played VMI to a 1-1 draw on Feb. 28.

“It was a physical battle, a really competitive game like we expected from VCU,” said Davidson coach Adam Denton. “It could be a valuable point as we get to the end of the season, but there’s still a long way to go in terms of games all across all of the pods.”

VCU had a 10-4 advantage in shots, including 5-1 in shots on goal, and each team attempted five corner kicks. Goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch made five saves for the Wildcats, including a diving redirection of an Anna Bagley shot in the 47th minute.

“Really tough battle between two very different teams,” said Denton. “We had periods of high pressure and did well, maintained possession of the ball under pressure and generated some chances of our own.”

Katherine Smith put a shot on goal in the closing seconds of the first overtime.
