CLINTON, S.C. – Davidson fell on the road at Presbyterian Saturday at Bailey Memorial Stadium, 29-24.

The Wildcats got off to their usual fast start, scoring on the first possession, an 11-play, 74-yard drive capped off by a junior Coy Williams goal line to go run.

The Blue Hose responded with a pair of touchdowns, nearly a quarter apart, to take a 14-7 lead with 5:54 left in the second quarter.

Davidson sophomore kicker Caden Bonoffski cut into the home team lead late in the half, converting his sixth field goal of the season, this one from 22 yards to get the ‘Cats within four at the break, 14-10.

The Wildcats were back in business to start the third. Senior James Boyleforced a fumble from PC quarterback Tyler Huff, recovered by freshman Jonathan Hammond.

On the ensuing possession, senior quarterback Tyler Phelps and the ‘Cats converted four third down tries and finished in the end zone, another Williams scoring scamper, this time from three yards out.

Back and forth it went, as PC regained the lead with consecutive scoring drives, the latter a beneficiary of a Davidson fumble.

Trailing 26-17 early in the final frame, the ‘Cats found the end zone on a five-yard Mark McCurdy carry, but it took 5:20 off the game clock.

Presbyterian then drained some clock on a long drive, using nearly six minutes worth and kicked a field goal to ensure Bonoffski couldn’t end it on a game-winner for the ‘Cats.

Davidson drove, and benefitted from three straight pass interference calls on the Blue Hose, but PC made up for it with an interception to seal the game.

Phelps led the ground attack with 115 yards, his second 100-yard performance of the season, as the Wildcats gained 270 yards on the ground. Senior Satchel Moore caught all five of Phelps’ completions for 55 yards. On the other side of the line, Presby’s Colby Campbell had a career day, totaling 25 tackles, 3.0 for loss and forced a fumble.

Three ‘Cats posted seven tackle days, juniors Jalen Jefferson and Cade Vela, and sophomore Miles Davis. Hammond added to his impressive rookie tally, adding another 1.5 tackles for loss.

Davidson wraps up the 2021 spring regular season at home Saturday, Apr. 17 against Stetson. Kickoff from Richardson Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
