Baseball Loses Series Finale at VCU
RICHMOND, Va. — Ryan Wilson’s fifth-inning home run broke a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon at VCU, but Davidson dropped the Atlantic 10 series finale 3-1 to the Rams.
Wilson’s leadoff solo shot to left was his fourth homer of the season and gave the Wildcats the 1-0 lead they held for two innings. But the Rams answered with two runs in the seventh on RBI-singles by Michael Haydak and Tyler Locklear.
VCU then added an insurance run in the eighth when Hogan Brown drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Wilson had two of the Wildcats’ five hits Sunday.
Alex Fenton turned in a quality start on the mound, throwing seven innings, scattering nine hits and striking out six. Both runs the Rams scored against him were unearned.
The Wildcats return home and will host George Washington in A-10 play next weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, April 23.
