On Wednesday, April 28, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen provided an update regarding COVID-19 in North Carolina. Beginning Friday, April 30, 2021, a new executive ordertakes effect in which many restrictions are eased. Important points include:

• Masks will no longer be required outdoors but will still be required indoors in public places. Please note wearing masks is still encouraged in outdoor spaces with large crowds or where social distancing is not possible.
• Limits on mass gatherings will increase to 100 people indoors and 200 outdoors.

Governor Cooper and Secretary Cohen remind North Carolinians that social distancing will remain important, as well as an increased number of vaccinations across the state. Secretary Cohen reported 48.7% of the 18+ population in the state is at least partially vaccinated and 39.2% is fully vaccinated.

Governor Cooper shared the goal to eliminate the indoor mask mandate on June 1, 2021, but clarified that being able to do so depends on whether the state reaches the target goal of partial vaccination of two-thirds of North Carolina adults, and other COVID-19 trends and metrics remaining stable.

VACCINE AVAILABILITY IN OUR AREA

Mecklenburg County Public Health encourages all eligible residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Public Health Department has been working to make vaccine readily available and accessible for any adult over the age of 16 who wishes to be vaccinated.

In the Davidson area, First Baptist Church in Cornelius will hold a Pfizer vaccination clinic on Saturday, May 1 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in conjunction with Mecklenburg County Department of Public Health. The clinic is open to anyone 18 years of age and up.  The second shot will be given on May 22 at the same location and time.  To make an appointment, click HERE or call 980-314-9400.
