Dawn Frances (Cooney) Costa,

Dawn Frances (Cooney) Costa, 62, of Davidson, NC, passed away begrudgingly on Friday, April 30, 2021, after a valiant fight against Breast Cancer. She was born on April 12, 1959 in Orange, NJ. She was the daughter of Peter and Mary Cooney of Orange, NJ. Dawn graduated from Orange High School, class of 1977, and immediately went to work in numerous administrative positions. Later she would find her way into the mortgage banking field; in which she worked for 25 years. It was there she met the love of her life, husband James Costa “Jim Baby.” They were married for 30 years.

In 1999, they moved to Charlotte, NC where they became “southern.” It was here that Dawn made the decision to go to college and enrolled at UNC Charlotte at the age of 41, pursuing
a major in Spanish. She graduated with honors with a BA in Spanish in 2010. She enjoyed the Spanish language and volunteered as a translator for the medical professionals at the
Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson, NC. Dawn also enjoyed cooking, especially baking and she would always bake treats for co-workers and friends. She loved taking long walks,
especially on the beach in Kiawah Island, SC. Dawn loved old school R&B, Dance, and Classical Rock-n-Roll music. She loved dogs and was a “dog mom” to two beloved Golden
Retrievers, Chester and Winston. She remained faithful to her Catholic upbringing and attended St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James of 30 years; brother, John and his wife, Ana Lucia of Aventura, FL; sisters, Cecilia and Joanne of Centralia, IL; nieces and nephew, Cheryl
and her husband, Corey of Columbia, MD, Jonathan, and Jessica of NJ. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. Therese Catholic Church. A reception will follow at 11:00 AM at River Run Country Club. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Costa family. Condolences may be made to the family at
