Town Receives COVID Resiliency Award

by | May 13, 2021

Kim Fleming, Amanda Preston, Jesse Book, and members of the Town’s Public Works staff were recognized with the COVID Resiliency Award.

On Wednesday, May 12, Centralina Regional Council announced the recipients of the Region of Excellence Awards in a virtual ceremony.  Presented annually, these awards recognize individuals, communities, and organizations for their outstanding achievements in support of Centralina’s mission to expand opportunity and improve quality of life in the nine county Centralina region which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln. Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties.

The Town of Davidson was awarded one of three COVID-19 Resiliency Awards, specifically for business support. Like so many communities across the country, COVID-19 upended the way business and community matters were handled for Davidson. In response, led by strong funding and support from the mayor and board of commissioners, paired with diligent staff efforts coordinated by Economic Development Manager Kim Fleming, the town quickly initiated collaborative communication between Mecklenburg County, the Town of Davidson, businesses and the local community to gather meaningful input on priorities for businesses to reopen safely. As a result, Davidson businesses were able to adapt their business models and be more resilient in the face of unprecedented change.

“The pandemic changed the way we do business and required flexibility, collaboration and innovation to ensure continuity of services,” said Commissioner Bobby Compton of Mooresville, Chairman of the Centralina Regional Council Board. “We are proud to recognize how these individuals and communities responded during one of the most challenging times in our nation’s history.”

Economic Development Manager Kim Fleming notes “the past year has been incredibly challenging for our businesses, but the support from the community has been overwhelming and has helped these retailers and restaurants through the pandemic. The leadership of our mayor and board of commissioners and the work of town staff, especially our public works department, has enabled us to be creative and support our local businesses when they needed it the most. We are so appreciative for our town to be recognized for our communal effort to bolster the unique and vibrant business community we are so lucky to have in Davidson.”
