On May 26, Elizabeth Shores (“Betsy”), Town of Davidson Town Clerk, was awarded the prestigious designation of “North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk” (NCCMC) by the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks (NCAMC), along with the School of Government of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in recognition of achieving its high educational, experience, and service requirements.

The North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk Program is a five-year designation with requirements for continuing education to sustain and develop the always-changing knowledge of the profession of municipal clerks.   The NCAMC, together with the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, strives to promote educational and professional development to enhance the clerk, a challenging task given the wide range of duties performed by municipal clerks, which often vary from municipality to municipality.

Betsy has served as the town’s clerk for 3 years and has a wide variety of responsibilities, including: serving as custodian of official town records, preparing meeting packets and other materials, attending board meetings and keeping the minutes, providing support for the Davidson Mayor and Board of Commissioners as well as the Davidson Town Manager, maintaining administrative files and records according to the NC Records and Retention Schedule, and many more. Betsy is also charged with having a thorough knowledge of NC General Statutes and of local ordinances governing the role of the clerk.

“The Town of Davidson is so fortunate to have such a capable and dedicated public servant like Betsy Shores in the critical role of town clerk,” said Town Manager Jamie Justice. “Her professionalism, work ethic, and eagerness to continue to learn and grow in her role is so admirable. This certification is a high achievement for Betsy personally and for the town.”
