This Week at DFM: June 19

by | Jun 17, 2021

Head over to the Davidson Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning.

Hello DFM Shoppers,

It’s an exciting weekend at the market this week! Many farmers will have field-grown tomatoes, which means summer cooking can commence. Growing up, I did not enjoy tomatoes, but that was because I was never introduced to field-grown or heirloom tomatoes. I didn’t know how diverse tomatoes could be: color, taste, size. At the market you can find tomatoes like red, yellow, and orange grape tomatoes; Cherokee purple; German Johnson; pink tomatoes; and many more exciting varietals. If you’re unfamiliar with the tomatoes you’re seeing, ask the farmers about them –– they love talking about this special and loved crop!

This Saturday is also the day before Father’s Day. Treat the father figures in your life to a day at the market, enjoy a breakfast or lunch from Bleu Barn Bistro with a cold Updog Kombucha sitting at one of the tables in the new gathering plaza. You can also find all the ingredients you need for a home cooked meal for Father’s Day, plus exciting gifts from our bakery, wellness and beauty, and speciality item vendors. This is what makes DFM such an exciting market, you can shop for weekly items and shop for gifts and supplies for special occasions and holidays. But more importantly, spending a Saturday morning supporting local, family-owned businesses with family and friends is a great way to kick off the weekend!

Happy eating,

Justin
