Wildcats Anthony and Benson Recognized on A-10 All-Rookie Team

by | Jul 1, 2021

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A pair of Davidson hurdlers earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie recognition, announced by the league Tuesday.

Competing in their first outdoor seasons due to the cancelation of the 2020 campaign, Bryce Anthony and Jordan Benson earned All-Rookie Team honors for their efforts in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

Anthony’s A-10 Championship run in the 400 hurdles catapulted him onto the All-Rookie Team. His time of 51.13 broke a nearly two-decade old meet record and shattered his own school record set the previous day in prelims.

Benson’s time of 14.41 second performance at the Raleigh Relays earned him his spot. The time ranked second in the conference for the season.

The duo also earned All-Rookie honors for their efforts during the 2019-20 indoor season. Anthony earned a pair of medals and All-Rookie honors in the heptathlon and the 60-meter hurdles, while Benson took the laurels for his performance in the high jump.

The A-10 All-Academic Team is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the league. Eligible nominees must have completed a year of school and have maintained a GPA over 3.0. The All-Rookie Team is comprised of the top rookie (freshman or sophomore in 2021 due to the cancelation of the 2020 campaign) in each event.
