Davidson Police Release Pedestrian Fatality Report
The Davidson Police Department released the report on the fatal accident that killed Sue Younts.
Davidson Police Department investigators and officers presented the June 17, Main Street auto/pedestrian fatality investigation to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office. An Assistant District Attorney visited the scene as a part of the review. The victim, Davidson resident Suzanne Younts, was pronounced dead at the scene on June 17th at approximately 1:15 p.m. The Davidson police investigation found no criminal offense or traffic violation on the driver’s part involved in this tragic accident. The District Attorney’s Office agreed with the findings.
The investigation found that the victim was struck approximately 18 feet north of the crosswalk after walking between two vehicles stopped at the red light in the southbound lane of Main Street. The information and evidence gathered at the scene included numerous witness statements and forensic evidence.
“The investigation of a traffic fatality is difficult for all involved and we are grateful for the witnesses who came forward following the tragic death of Mrs. Younts,” said Chief Penny Dunn. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Suzanne’s family and many others impacted by this tragedy.”
The Davidson Police Department responded to the scene with the Davidson Fire Department and Mecklenburg EMS. Davidson Police were assisted in the investigation by the Cornelius Police Department, Huntersville Police Department, and Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.

A United Way member agency, the MHA works to promote mental wellness through advocacy, prevention, and education. In addition to advocacy, MHA provides information and referral, and MHA’s certified staff delivers evidenced-based trainings in QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) suicide prevention, Mental Health First Aid – the Adult and Youth versions, De-escalation, Family Partner Certification, and more. MHA’s ParentVOICE program provides support for families of youth with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges; Compeer is an evidenced-based friendship/socialization program matching community volunteers with adults living with mental health issues in a one-to-one match; and their Multicultural Advocacy program works with mental health service providers to assure cultural competence in service delivery.

Mecklenburg County Mobile Crisis Team
The Mecklenburg County Mobile Crisis Team is comprised of a group of clinicians with experience in mental health, substance abuse, intellectual disabilities and situational crises. The Mobile Crisis Team serves all of Mecklenburg County and a referral can come from anyone. The Mobile Crisis Team has the ability to handle a crisis either by phone or by dispatching to the consumer and/or caller.
