Davidson’s Hall Qualifies for 2021 U.S. Amateur (Golf)
MEBANE, N.C. — Davidson’s Ethan Hall captured individual medalist at Mill Creek Golf Club Thursday afternoon to qualify for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Championship, the most prestigious tournament in the United States for amateur golfers.
The 2021 U.S. Amateur will take place August 9-15 with two rounds of stroke play followed by the Top-64 finishers advancing to the match play portion at historic Oakmont Country Club. Longue Vue Club will serve as a co-host venue for the 312-player stroke play field.
A rising junior from Morehead City, N.C., Hall finished his two-day qualifier with a 36-hole total of 5-under 139.
“The U.S. Amateur has always seemed out of reach,” said Hall. “But the work has finally paid off this week and I couldn’t be more excited. Hopefully we can keep it rolling in August, but most importantly I can’t wait to just enjoy the experience.”
After opening with a 71, Hall signed for a 4-under 68 highlighted by four birdies and an eagle on the Par 5 sixth hole to edge the site’s only other qualifier, Mebane native Caden Baker, by one stroke.
Fellow Wildcat and 2021 All-Conference selection Viraj Garewal, led the Mill Creek site after the opening round before carding a final round 73 to miss an alternate spot by one shot.
