USMC/AVCA Recognizes Wildcat Volleyball for Academic Excellence

by | Jul 20, 2021

Davidson Volleyball returns to Belk Arena this August.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The United States Marine Corps, in collaboration with the American Volleyball Coaches Association, announced Monday that the Davidson volleyball program has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 academic year.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. A total of 1,275 collegiate and high school teams earned the award this season, including 243 NCAA Division I programs.

“This is a reflection of the amazing effort and culture our women commit to every year,” said Head Coach Chris Willis. “Academics are not only a priority, they’re also very difficult at Davidson. When people commit to doing the difficult, great moments arise.”

As a team the Wildcats earned a 3.568 cumulative GPA for the year, while 15 individual ‘Cats were named to the Atlantic 10’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll earlier this summer.

Davidson will return to the courts for a complete season in late August, set to take on NC Central inside Belk Arena on August 27 for the season opener.
