Odo Named an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominee

by | Jul 26, 2021

Rising Davidson senior, Chibuike “Chi Chi” Odo shared his spoken word poem at the Davidson Juneteenth Celebration.

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) have announced the list of nominees for the 2021 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team including Davidson rising-senior Chibuike “ChiChi” Odo.

Odo is the sixth Wildcat to earn a spot on the ballot in the last eight years – the first since George Hatalowich ’20, who made the 2019 Good Works Team.

“Such an honor to have one of our Wildcats on the ballot for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team,” said head coach Scott Abell. “ChiChi has served in so many ways since arriving here to Davidson. He represents what being a scholar-athlete is all about.  We are all very proud of ChiChi. There is no one more deserving.”

Odo is a familiar face on campus and has been involved in many community projects.

In the Summer of 2020, the McKinney, Texas, native facilitated “Let’s Talk About It,” a scholar-athlete forum discussion over Zoom that guided Davidson Athletic Director Chris Clunie‘s “Call to Action.” Odo was a catalyst for many teams to take action towards better team culture, community involvement and campus engagement on antiracism.

President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and a member of the student government association, Odo still has more plans on contributing to the world around him. He is currently training to be a Suicide Hotline Volunteer and is launching the “Alumni Spotlight Initiative” at McKinney ISD, his home school district.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® was established in 1992 to recognize a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives others.

Of the 109 nominees; 22 student-athletes will make-up the final team with 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 combined from the NCAA Football Championship Division, Division II and III.
