Wildcat Women’s Soccer Overtakes Ga. Southern in Final Minutes

by | Aug 24, 2021

DAVIDSON — Emma Nguyen’s goal with less than 10 minutes to play Sunday lifted the Davidson women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southern on Senior Day at Alumni Stadium.

Nguyen’s first goal of the season and the second of her career helped the Wildcats improve to 2-0 after they trailed the Eagles 1-0 at the half.

“Always good to have a victory on Senior Day,” said coach Adam Denton. “In the second half, the momentum started to switch in our direction, and we started to create more opportunities with the possession we had. Great through-ball and cross and a great finish by Emma Nguyen. We’ll learn from this experience. We continued to grow against a good Georgia Southern team.”

Nguyen’s game-winner came on an assist from Shannon Lytle, who worked along the right side. Her cross was on target, and Nguyen chipped into the net from front left.

The Wildcats tied the score in the 71st minute when Sophia Caruso struck from deep right with her first goal of the season.

Vala Theodorsdottir scored the Eagles’ goal in the fifth minute.
