The Town of Davidson is excited to announce that renovations of the new town center at 251 South Street are underway. Supported by a 2019 General Obligation (GO) bond, Phase 1 of the Public Facilities Project includes renovations on the site that will preserve the historic character of the building while also creating a vibrant new town center. Town of Davidson offices will occupy a portion of the building, providing for the growing needs of the town’s administrative functions, and approximately half of the building will be available for community gathering space.

In November 2019, Davidson voters approved a $14 million GO bond to fund the two projects, and in February 2021, site mobilization began, including perimeter fencing, new dumpsters, and construction traffic. With the conclusion of that phase, work can now begin on the actual renovations.

The Davidson Police and Fire Departments will continue to be in the current town hall site at 216 S. Main Street, albeit with renovations to the building, both on the main level and in the fire space below. These renovations will occur in Phase 2 of the Public Facilities Project, after the conclusion of the work at 251 South Street.

Area residents and business owners are asked to please be aware of the increase in construction traffic and exercise caution while driving, riding a bicycle, or walking on and around the South Street area. We anticipate completion of the renovations at 251 South Street in the summer of 2022.
