NEW YORK — The Davidson field hockey team scored a season-best three goals but came out on the short end of a 5-3 game at Hofstra Sunday.

The game completed the Wildcats’ four-game road swing to start the season.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, the Wildcats cut into the deficit on Anna Sharp’s first goal of the season. It came on a Macy Curtis assist with six seconds left in the period.

The Wildcats pulled even on Natalie Naticchia’s first career goal, off an Evie Lake assist, at the 25:11 mark, but Hofstra edged back in front 1:33 later on Lara Borensztein’s second goal of the half.

Bella Worthington’s first career goal, at the 40:18 mark, came on another Curtis assist and cut it to 4-3.
