For several years, the News of Davidson team has announced Fish Fries and “Buying a Brick” to help Reeves Temple AME Zion Church restore and renovate the historic Lingle Hut that is an integral part of their church home. So, when we got word that vandals had broken into the historic building, we reached out to the Davidson Police Department to get an update. We received the following in response:
“Davidson Police are investigating a reported illegal entering of the Lingle Hut and discharge of a fire extinguisher inside the building.
While the case is still under investigation, we cannot provide more details at this time. The department is working with Reeves Temple Church Trustees and their security company to obtain recordings in and around the historic building. Any incident of breaking and entering, vandalism, or any other such crime on private or community property will be taken very seriously by Davidson Police and will be fully investigated.”
A member of Reeve’s Temple said, “The congregation is very upset, discouraged, and heart broken. The community should be upset as well. Too many people have given to the cause for it to be destroyed by uncaring people.”
News of Davidson will keep the community updated as more information becomes available, including how people can help.
