This Week at DFM: Sept. 25

by | Sep 23, 2021

And you can make pies with some of those apples.

Hello DFM Shoppers,

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year, apple season! DFM’s annual at market fundraiser, Apple Sales, starts this weekend and runs through November. This year, DFM is partnering with Fair Share Farm and Lyda & Sons Orchard to bring you delicious NC apples. All sales support DFM operations and the continuing growth.

Apple sales will be located near the DFM shed (at the top of Jackson Street parking lot). This year shoppers can select pre-bagged apples or pick their own. Each Saturday is a limited amount, so make sure you arrive early to shop your favorite types of apples!

Apples available this week are:

  • Rome Apples – best for cooking (baking, frying, roasting) these apples hold their shape and become sweeter and richer when cooked;
  • Cortland Apples – terrific baking apples, these juicy and slightly tart apples are great for pies, cobblers, and crisps. Use raw, sliced in salads or on cheese plates;
  • Gala Apples – a sweet apple with a mild flavor these are great eating apples! Also good for applesauce and cider pressing.

Happy Eating,

Justin
