Heffner Leads ‘Cats’ Golf with Top-20 Showing at Old Town Collegiate

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson’s Alex Heffner fired a two-under 68 Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 207 (-3) and pace the Wildcats at the 2021 Old Town Collegiate hosted by Wake Forest.

The two-day event was played on the Par 70, 6,966-yard Old Town Club layout.

A sophomore from Harrisburg, N.C., Heffner finished with a combined 11 birdies to record his second straight Top-20 showing to open the fall campaign.

As a team, the Wildcats concluded the event at just six-over 846, which included a final-round 285.

In addition to Davidson and the host Demon Deacons, the 15-team field featured College of Charleston, Duke, East Carolina, Kansas State, Kentucky, Loyola (Md.), Penn State, Rutgers, SMU, Southern Mississippi, UNCG and Virginia Tech.

Alex Heffner (213 | T-50), Viraj Garewal (214 | T-54), Ethan Hall (217 | T-62) and Will Davis (218 | T-68) were also in the Wildcat lineup.

Nationally-ranked Wake Forest (-35) led wire-to-wire to capture the team title by 14 strokes over Southern Mississippi.

The Demon Deacons’ Alex Fitzpatrick and Michael Brennan shared medalist honors at 12-under 198.
