The Special Committee on Commemoration has been tasked by the Board of Trustees with planning a permanent commemorative site, including the possibility of a commissioned work of art, to honor the contributions of enslaved people and others whose labor was exploited on our campus.

During this event, attendees will learn more about the background of this important work, the committee’s priorities and next steps. The conversation will close with audience questions.

Panelists will include Board of Trustees members Virgil Fludd ’80, chair of the Special Committee on Commemoration, Cintra Pollack ′99, Janet Stovall ′85 and college representatives.

This is a hybrid in-person and Zoom event.

  • Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend at the Duke Family Performance Hall, Knobloch Campus Center, or they may also attend via Zoom.
  • Alumni, friends and community members are encouraged to join via Zoom.
