Davidson Housing Coalition Introduces New Affordable Housing Counselor to Community

The Davidson Housing Coalition is happy to introduce Kendra Coney, our new Affordable Housing Counselor, to our community. Because all of US are in this together, DHC has created various financial counseling programs for our clients. As we enter our 20th year providing accessible Financial Counseling and Homebuyer Education to the community at-large, free of charge, Kendra will be working in the following areas:

Homebuyer Education:
Pre-purchase counseling
Post-purchase counseling

Financial Counseling Services:
Budget preparation and review
Housing counseling
Credit counseling
Debt management
Money management skills

Since 2012, 158 families who have completed our homebuyer education program have purchased homes in Davidson. More than 1,300 people have received financial literacy or homebuyer education since the inception of the program.

Kendra told us a little bit about herself:

What are your primary job responsibilities?

As the Affordable Housing Counselor, my job is to educate families on our affordable housing process and offer educational workshops that coordinates with financial stability and homeownership.

Tell us a little about your education and experience that has prepared you for this position.

Having over seven years in the human service field, I’ve gained an abundant amount of education and experience to better prepare myself for this role and to earn a degree in Social Work.

What are the aspects of the job you enjoy the most?

I truly enjoy assisting others. The ultimate reward is seeing families become independent and self-sufficient.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Crafts, crafts, and crafts! I enjoy making jewelry and accessory pieces. I also love poetry, writing, and learning about different cultures.
