Davidson Women’s Tennis Doubles Shine at Georgia Southern Fall Shootout
STATESBORO, Ga. — The Davidson women’s tennis team went a combined 6-2 in doubles play this weekend while picking up seven singles wins at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout.
The ‘Cats faced off against players from host Georgia Southern, Mercer, Arkansas State, Georgia State, Jacksonville State and several other schools over the weekend. Davidson went a combined 3-1 in doubles play on Saturday while grabbing three singles wins and closed out the weekend with another 3-1 doubles effort on Sunday in addition to four more singles wins.
Davidson’s doubles duo of Josie Schaffer and Kavya Patel shined over the weekend, downing Georgia State 7-6 (1) on Saturday then winning their flight on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over North Florida. Rookies Daniela Porges and Linden Patterson were also an impressive doubles duo, as the two defeated Georgia State, 6-3, and UT-Chattanooga, 6-1, over the two-day stretch. Additionally, the pairs of Emma Heiderscheit & Franny Shea and Mira Gladstone & Elizabeth Truluck each picked up a doubles victory.
On the singles side Porges had a stellar weekend, winning her flight at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mercer and 6-1, 6-1 victory against Kennesaw State. Gladstone and Schaffer each earned two-set victories on Saturday as well, while Truluck, Heiderscheit and Patterson delivered singles victories on Sunday against Jacksonville State, Arkansas State and Mercer, respectively.
The ‘Cats will be back in action on Oct. 21 to begin competition at the ITA Regionals in Winston-Salem.
