Secret Society of Crafters – Hearts on Fiber

Oct 24 @ 10:00 a.m.

208 South Main Street

Crafting is more fun with other people, which is why we created the “Secret” Society of Crafters. The title says “secret,” but we’re a not-so-secret, not-so-exclusive group who meets to stitch, craft, crochet, knit, sit and talk. We may or may not talk about knitting, yarn bombing, hand dying, or the latest stitch. We may even talk about world domination. You won’t know unless you come. Connect with crafters in the area, find the motivation to pick up that project again, and benefit from the wisdom of a passionate crafting group. The “Secret” Society of Crafters meets outside the store every Wednesday and Sunday at 10:00 AM weather permitting. We hope to see you there!

Music at St. Alban’s – Noel Freidline Jazz Concert

October 24 @ 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: St. Alban’s Episcopal Church
Music at St. Alban’s (M@SA) will launch its 2021-22 season with concert featuring the Noel Freidline Jazz Quartet—a live concert with a live streaming option. The program is entitled “Swinging Sophistication: Tribute to the Modern Jazz Quartet,” a well-known combo famous in its heyday (1950s-70s) for their complex, iconic compositions and arrangements and for their elegant presentation that retained a strong blues feel. Freidline has transcribed a full program of the group’s arrangements, much of which has never been published. Thus, hearing Freidline’s group, which for this program will include the well-known vibraphonist Jon Metzger, will be much like seeing Lazarus rise from the dead. As a highly recommended bonus, at 2:00 p.m. DavidsonLearns will conduct a discussion and demonstrations with members of the visiting quartet—so come early! (Consult www.davidsonlearns.org/spotlight-events for latest information about this special event.) M@SA is committed to protecting the health of attendees and performers. Fans attending the live concert will need to adhere to Covid protocols in effect at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, which are subject to change. At time of writing they include the requirement that all attendees wear a mask and sign a roster upon entry should a need for contact tracing arise. In addition, M@SA would greatly appreciate attendees’ having been fully vaccinated. For people wary of joining a large gathering, M@SA will stream this concert live. For information about potential changes to the church’s Covid protocols and about the streaming option, please consult M@SA’s website: www.musicatstalbansdavidson.org. This event is made possible, in part, with funding from the ASC. M@SA is a 501[c]3 non-profit organization.
