Women’s Basketball Set for Midweek Tip with Georgetown

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off their first win of the season, the Davidson women’s basketball team is set to travel to Washington, D.C. for a Wednesday night match up with Georgetown University.

Tip off is schedule for 7 p.m. with live coverage available on the team’s social media platforms at @DavidsonWBB on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

Series History:

  • Davidson will bookend its home-and-home series with Georgetown on Wednesday after meeting the Hoyas during the 2019-20 season.
  • The Wildcats took the first ever meeting between Davidson and Georgetown, in a 66-52 victory from inside Belk Arena. 
  • In the last meeting, Davidson had four scorers record double-digit points, with Suzi-Rose Deegan, Cassidy Gould and Adelaide Fuller each scoring 16, 10 and 10 points, respectively.

Five Things to Know:
TORCH ‘EM.. Davidson’s 46.3 percent shooting effort from the field last Friday night was the program’s best shooting performance since the Wildcats downed league-rival Fordham, in the Bronx, with a 42.9 field goal percentage. So far this season, the Wildcats have drained 21 three’s, in three games, and shot 34.4 percent from beyond the arc. As the Wildcats are averaging 7.0 three’s per game, they currently rank in the top-100 in the nation in made three’s per game and 39th nationally, and second in the A-10, in total three-pointers.

LAST TIME OUT… The Davidson Wildcats won their first game of the 2021-22 season on Sunday in front of their home crowd, downing Jacksonville State 69-58 on McKillop Court. Chloe Welch and Adelaide Fuller led the Davidson scorers, tallying 12 points apiece while Elle Sutphin was right behind with 11 of her own. Fuller and Sutphin also led on the glass for the ‘Cats as the two grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Cassidy Gould had a complete-game performance for the Wildcats, scoring seven points, dishing five assists and grabbing four rebounds. Davidson cruised through a steady first half, torching the nets at a 50 percent clip from the field on 13-of-26 shooting, while holding the Gamecocks to just a 16.7 percent effort from the floor.  Welch hit three of her last four field goal attempts in the first half, while junior Cameron Tabor added six points and five rebounds to the score-sheet, to push the ‘Cats to a 32-20 lead heading into the break. Although the Gamecocks pulled back within one of Davidson, the Wildcats closed out the day with a 19-6 run to secure the home court victory.

ABOUT THE HOYAS… Georgetown is 2-0 on the young season, earning a victory over Navy, 73-62, on opening night before storming to a 86-48 win over Division II Salem University. Through two games, the Hoyas average 79.5 points per game to go with 62.0 rebounds per game. Led by senior Jillian Archer, who averages a double-double through two games, Georgetown is shooting 46.6 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS… Dating back to the 2019-20 season, Davidson is 18-6 when making 25 field goals or more in a single game. In those games, the Wildcats shot at least 35.9% or better from from the floor including four performances with a 50% or higher field goal percentage. Last weekend the ‘Cats posted back-to-back outings of 25+ field goals, hitting 31 in a loss to Columbia and 25 in the win over Jacksonville State.

THE DISTRICT… In the last decade, Davidson is 1-3 overall when competing in Washington, D.C. In the Gayle Fulks era, the Wildcats are 1-1 in D.C., both times taking on A-10 foe George Washington.
