Men’s Basketball Drops Game to New Mexico State, 75-64

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – New Mexico State hit eight second-half 3-pointers and closed on a 10-0 run to get by Davidson, 75-64 in the opening round of the 2021 Myrtle Beach Invitational Thursday inside the HTC Center.

Luka Brajkovic led the Wildcats with 17 points, Foster Loyer added 16, while Hyunjung Lee and Michael Jones had 14 and 12, respectively.

Davidson, which found itself in an early 19-7 hole, quickly erased the largest deficit of the game with a 26-6 streak highlighted by 17 combined points from Brajkovic (9) and Jones (8) before carrying a 33-28 lead into the half.

With the ‘Cats in front 42-38 early in the second period, the Aggies pushed the momentum back in their favor with a 16-4 run capped by three consecutive 3-pointers to go up 54-46 with 9:40 to play.

Davidson would later respond with six straight to deadlock things at 56-56, but New Mexico State answered again and eventually scoring the final 10 points of the game.

The Aggies, who entered shooting just under 35 percent from long range, hit 12-of-26 and finished the contest at 49 percent (25-51) overall.

Like the Wildcats, New Mexico State (3-0) placed four in double figures, including Teddie Allen, who paced both teams with 20 points.

Despite the setback, the ‘Cats committed just seven turnovers.
