McClain Earns A-10 Swimming Rookie of the Week Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson freshman swimmer Ben McClain has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
McClain, of Kennesaw, Ga., is the fourth Wildcat to earn A-10 honors this season and the second to be named Rookie of the Week (Miles Charles, Oct. 19). Shelby Stanley (Oct. 19) and Owen Curry (Oct. 27) were previously named Performer of the Week.
McClain swam the fastest 200 freestyle of any A-10 swimmer this season during the seven-team Bucknell Invitational last weekend. He posted a time of 1:40.64 while finishing fifth. He also placed fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.06 and was sixth in the 100 free (45.88). Those times rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the A-10 this year.
Additionally, McClain swam on three top-four relays at Bucknell, including the 400 free relay (3rd), the 400 medley (4th) and the 800 free (4th).
