The Editors welcome Stu Atwell, the Fitness Coordinator at The Pines at Davidson. He will be giving us ideas for healthy living in our Firness and Wellness Column. Stu grew up in the Davidson area, earning a BFA from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has been in the fitness industry since 1993, starting at the Lake Norman YMCA. His experience includes working in cardiac rehab, post-rehab, personal training, and group fitness. For over 20 years, he was a personal trainer, manager, and owner of Nautilus One-to-One Corporate Fitness Centers in Huntersville, North Carolina. He is currently the Fitness Specialist at The Pines at Davidson.

In my introduction to the readers of News of Davidson, I would like to offer a way to make a plan that will help you enjoy holiday parties and dinners, while maintaining healthy eating habits.

One simple suggestion is to keep a daily food diary. Knowing that you are going to be writing down what you eat will help keep you from reaching for more than you need. This is a great tool anytime to help control eating habits.

Here are two web sites that could be helpful to you:

https://www.eatthis.com/healthy-holiday-eating-habits/

https://www.seventhgeneration.com/blog/10-tips-eating-healthy-during-holidays

Both sites recommend one simple way to curb appetites: Stay hydrated. If you choose to use only one tip, drinking water may be the easiest. Happy holidays!
