DavidsonLearns Presents Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman on John Leslie Breck, American Impressionist

by | Nov 30, 2021

John Leslie Breck, an American painter, was one of the founders of the American art colony at the French village of Giverny, the home of Claude Monet. During his time at Giverny in the late 1880s, Breck embraced the Impressionist style. After coming home, he was one of the first artists to exhibit his Impressionist paintings in America. Breck helped to popularize the Impressionist style during his years working in the Boston area in the 1890s.

The Mint Museum is presenting the first-ever retrospective of Breck’s beautiful Impressionist paintings. This important exhibition includes approximately 70 of Breck’s finest works, as well as several works by his French and American Impressionist colleagues. The Mint’s Senior Curator of American Art, Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman, curated the Breck exhibit, and he will speak to us about the artist’s life and work, as well as the extraordinary paintings by Breck and other Impressionists that we can see at the Mint Museum.
