Town Offers Kraft Bags for Responsible Leaf Disposal
With fall in full swing and trees dropping leaves throughout the community, the Town of Davidson is providing free 30-gallon paper bags to residents for leaf pick-up.
The Town of Davidson encourages residents to use paper bags or sustainable methods of eliminating yard waste in support of the town’s sustainability initiatives. These bags are compostable and will eliminate plastic residue in compost. Yard waste consists of excess leaves, grass clippings, tree and shrubbery trimmings, and other organic material removed during the general maintenance of a property by the homeowner. The Town of Davidson does not provide yard waste or leaf collection at residences; however, Waste Pro, the town’s contractor, will collect both yard waste and bagged leaves according to residents’ regular trash and recycling schedule.
Free Kraft bags will be available at the Davidson Public Works facility (206 Potts Street) on both Saturday, December 11 and Saturday, December 18 between the hours of 9:00-11:00 a.m. Residents not able to pick up bags on those dates can visit Davidson Town Hall (216 S. Main Street) December 13-17 during normal business hours. Bags will be located on the table in the atrium entryway. Additional bags will also be available at the Davidson Parks & Recreation booth at the Davidson Farmer’s Market on Saturday, December 11, where residents will also have a chance to learn about composting. Free Kraft bags are always available by visiting the North Mecklenburg Recycling Center located at 12300 Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. As a reminder, the following items are considered acceptable yard waste:

- Bagged leaves will be collected along with residents’ garbage and recyclables. All bagged leaves must be free of sticks and other debris. Residents are allowed up to 20 bags per week. Bags cannot be larger than 40 gallons in size and cannot be more than 50 pounds in weight.
- There is a 4 cubic yard limit per pick-up.
