Wildcats Set Two New Indoor Track and Field Records
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Davidson Men’s Track and Field team was busy this weekend, competing in two meets – the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday and the JDL Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off Sunday. It was a good outing for the ‘Cats with both days featuring new school records being set.
The Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener was hosted at Boston University. Ben Gordon-Sniffen took third place in the mile run and Joe dos Reis finished ninth in the 3000-meter run. dos Reis’s time of 8:08.59 set the new school record, shaving four seconds off Will Brewster’s record from 2016.
The record for the 60-meter hurdles was set by Bryce Anthony earlier this year, in January 2021. It was broken not only by Anthony (8.13) again Sunday, but by Jayden Smith (7.95) and Cory Gaither (8.17) in the preliminary rounds. The trio went one-two-three in the finals but Smith’s time of 7.95 now stands as the new school record. Smith also placed fourth in the 200-meter finals.
Taking the top two spots in the 800-meter finals were freshman Jack Muldoon and senior Noah Floyd. Another top finisher was Rafi Degenero in the 1000-meter run. Freshmen Owen Lekki and Amit Markos made their collegiate indoor track and field debuts, with Lekki finishing second in the mile and Markos recording a ninth place finish in the 600-meter finals.
Junior Dylan Ameres took ninth place in pole vaulting after clearing 6.59m (21-7.5 ft).
