Wildcats Release 2022 Baseball Schedule, Opening Day: Feb. 18

by | Dec 21, 2021

The Wildcat 2022 Baseball schedule has been released.

Baseball season is now two months away, and Davidson’s 2022 schedule is set, coach Rucker Taylor announced today.

It’s a slate that features a mix of in-state and regional non-conference opponents and a return to the standard 24-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule.

“We’re excited to have a full 56-game regular season on the calendar,” said Taylor. “There’s some uniqueness this season with that, and we’re looking forward to the challenge of playing consistently over that period.”

The Wildcats, 27-24 a year ago, will open the season Friday, Feb. 18 against Lehigh at Wilson Field. It’s the start of a three-game weekend series and the first of 21 straight home games to open the season. In that time, the Wildcats will face Radford, Bryant, N.C. A&T, Columbia, Appalachian State, Norfolk State, William & Mary and Lafayette.

By the Numbers
4: Four foes on the schedule — Charlotte, Duke, Norfolk State and VCU — played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

10: Along with the A-10 opposition, the Wildcats will play teams from 10 conferences, including the ACC, Big South, Colonial Athletic Association, Conference USA, Ivy, MEAC, Northeastern, Patriot, Southern Conference and Sun Belt.

30: Davidson will play its first 30 games in the state of North Carolina, including 25 of those at home. In all, the Wildcats will play 39 games in the Tarheel State.

‘Cats facing ‘Cats
Davidson will play six games against teams coached by Wildcat alumni. The Wildcats will host Columbia in a four-game set March 4-6 and Duke in single games in Durham April 5 and May 17.

Columbia is coached by Brett Boretti ’94, who has led the Lions since 2005. Duke is coached by Chris Pollard ’96, now in his 10th year.

Going to the (pro) park
The Wildcats will play at least three games at minor league ballparks.

Davidson and rival Charlotte will meet for the first time since 2004 on Wednesday, March 23 and will do so at Truist Field, home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. It’ll be the 49ers’ home game.

The Wildcats will meet UNC Greensboro Sunday, March 27 at Truist Point Stadium, home of the Atlantic League’s High Point Rockers.

On Tuesday, April 5, the Wildcats will visit Duke at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

A Wildcats’ home game at Atrium Health Ballpark, home of the Single-A Kannapolis CannonBallers, is also in the works.

League play
The A-10 is returning to its regular 24-game league schedule, featuring eight three-game series, after playing six four-game sets last year.

The Wildcats will host Richmond, Rhode Island, UMass and George Mason and travel to VCU, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and Saint Joseph’s.

Fordham is set to host the A-10 Tournament May 24-28 at its Houlihan Park, as it did in 2019.
