Men’s Basketball Win Streak Extends to 14

It was another cardiac game for the Wildcat faithful. Men’s basketball took it down to the wire, defeating VCU 63-61.

After the Rams took an initial lead in the game, the Wildcats built a 10-point lead in the first half early in the first half, and took an 8-point lead into the locker room at half time. The game was tied 8 different times, and there were 7 different lead changes. The Rams had their largest lead of the game, 6 points, with 5:23 remaining in the game. At that point, the Wildcats went on a 9 point run. They retook the lead 60-59 with one of Loyer’s free throws. Luka Brajkovic had a layup, and Hyunjung Lee a made free throw to give the ‘Cats the 3 additional points for the win. 

Brajkovic, the A10 player of the week, led the ‘Cats in scoring with 19 points including two from behind the 3-point arc. 

The Wildcats out rebounded the Rams 32-20, with Michael Jones, Hyunjung Lee, and Sam Mennenga each pulling down six. Brajkovic was right behind them with five rebounds. 

Michael Jones who was red hot in the Wildcats last outing, hit 3 of 5 from behind the arc at VCU. Jones also had one of the ‘Cats 2 steals from the Rams. 

Foster Loyer had 14 points on the night, including 4-4 critical free throws.

The ‘Cats’ next game is on Saturday – a 2:00 p.m. road game at Fordham. The game is scheduled to be available on ESPN+.
