DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women’s basketball team returns to action on Wednesday night, looking for its third straight A-10 victory with a 7 p.m. tilt against VCU in Belk Arena.

The Atlantic 10 matchup will be the Wildcats’ first of three this week, as Davidson is set to compete on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday against the VCU, Fordham and Rhode Island Rams, respectively.

THE SERIES

  • Wednesday’s meeting will be the 10th all-time meeting against the Rams and ‘Cats.
  • Last year, Davidson and VCU met just once, in the Atlantic 10 tournament, falling 69-52 to the eventual A-10 Champions.
  • VCU has won the last three meetings against the Wildcats, with Davidson’s last win over the Rams coming on February 24, 2018 with a 69-63 win from inside Belk Arena.
  • A win on Wednesday would be Davidson’s seventh straight win and 12th of the season, Davidson’s third straight A-10 win and fourth straight 3-0 start to A-10 Conference play and the Wildcats’ first victory over the VCU Rams in four years.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
GAME-WINNERS GALORE… The Wildcats are coming off two straight A-10 wins heading into Wednesday’s match up with VCU, both of which involved thrilling game-winning baskets. The ‘Cats downed St. Bonaventure last Wednesday, 50-47, thanks to a game-winning 3-pointer from Cameron Tabor with 14 seconds left, and on Saturday Suzi-Rose Deegan hit the go-ahead trey with 21 seconds left to secure the 73-67 win over Duquesne.

STONE COLD SUZI-ROSE… Through eight games this season, junior Suzi-Rose Deegan has been an offensive spark for the Wildcats. Averaging 14 points per game, Deegan has scored in double-figures in her last four games for the Wildcats, including her second 20+ point performance of the season on Saturday against the Dukes (24). The Australia native is shooting 51.7 percent from the floor overall this season and went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc against Duquesne.

THE DEPTH CHART… Davidson’s offensive spread is deep this season, as six Wildcats average 8 points or more per game and the same six ‘Cats have all been a leading scorer for at least one game this year. Davidson is 5-1 on the year when three or more ‘Cats score in double-digits, and 2-1 when four Wildcats reach the double-figure threshold.

#KNOWTHEFOE… VCU will meet the Wildcats after a 2-2 start to Atlantic 10 play, with a 7-7 overall record this season. The Rams picked up notable non-conference wins over Washington and Boston College this year, while starting A-10 play 2-0 with wins over Duquesne and Saint Joseph’s. The Rams have three scorers who average 10.0 points per game or higher, and are led by Sarah Ti-Biasu, who averages 11.5 points per game, shoots 41.7 percent from the floor and has a team-high 35 assists.

GOULD AS GOLD… As Davidson’s floor general, senior Cassidy Gould is averaging 8.1 points per game this season and is averaging 10.3 points per game over her last six games, dating back to Dec. 15, 2021. The Aussie native has had three double-digit scoring performances over that stretch.
