Men’s Tennis Drops Season Opener at #10 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM – The Davidson men’s tennis team dropped its season opener to #10 Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon. The nationally ranked Demon Deacons won the match on a 7-0 decision.

In doubles action, Jerry Wang and William Clark dropped the No. 3 match in a 6-2 decision, while the Deacs clinched the doubles point with a win on court two over Nico Pinzon and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora, 6-2. The Wildcats’ top doubles duo of Sam Kavarana and Alejandro Solares were in the thick of a 5-3 battle before the point was declared.

Wake Forest won the singles matches in straight sets, winning all six. In the #1 flight, Solares fell 6-2, 6-1, while Brooks Green and Perez Gongora dropped 6-3, 6-2 decisions from courts four and two, respectively. After a solid doubles showing, Kavarana also battled in a 6-3, 6-3 bout from No. 3.

The ‘Cats will look to bounce back in their home opener on Sunday, Jan. 23, set to take on Gardner-Webb from inside the Knobloch Tennis Center. Opening serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
