Wildcat Swimmers and Divers Earn Medals at A-10 Championships
GENEVA, Ohio — Shelby Stanley won her third individual title — and her second straight Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer Award — Saturday to lead the Davidson swimming and diving teams on the final day of the A-10 Conference Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
In her latest splash, Stanley captured gold in the 200 fly to earn her fifth medal of the four-day meet. Earlier, she won the 100 fly and 200 IM in school- and league-record times and also earned silver with the 200 free relay team and bronze on the 200 medley relay.
Saturday, she swam the 200 fly in 1:59.35, helping the Wildcats wrap up fifth place in the 11-team competition.
Meanwhile, Abby Francis added a podium finish for Davidson, taking third in the 100 free (49.86).
Sylvia Stewart-Bates took fourth in the 1,650 free in 16:50.94, and the 400 free relay team of Julia Goodhead, Francis, Marissa Lassell and Chalé Jacks took fifth (3:24.48).
Anna Newman added eighth-place points in the 200 breast (2:18.09).
McClain medals to lead the Wildcat men
Ben McClain secured another medal Saturday to lead the Davidson men, who wrapped up fourth in the eight-team standings.
A day after winning the 200 free, McClain took bronze in the 100 free with a time of 44.83.
Diver Ben Cutforth just missed a podium finish, taking fourth in the 3M event (270.20). Fifth-place finishes went to Owen Curry in the 1,650 free (15:47.20), Andrew Schou in the 200 breast (2:02.39) and to the 400 free relay team of McClain, Thomas Broderick, Guil Ware and Ian Brann (3:00.63).
In the 200 back, Broderick was sixth (1:47.34) and Jeremy Kemp was seventh (1:49.12), and Kostas Mateer placed eighth in the 200 breast (2:03.81).
Drew Sheldon added 10th-place points in diving (229.20).
