Wildcats Heading to Women’s Basketball Invitational
Eight strong Division I women’s basketball teams will headline the 2022 Women’s Basketball Invitational set for March 18-20 in Lexington, KY. The eight team tournament will feature four games each day at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University.
The tournament opener is slated for Friday, Mar. 18 at 12:00 pm when Bowling Green State University will face Furman University. BGSU of the Mid-American Conference finished tied for fifth in league play while Furman of the Big South comes into the WBI with 19 wins on the season.
Friday’s second game features Saint Mary’s College and Austin Peay State University. Saint Mary’s comes to Lexington from the West Coast Conference while APSU brings a 19-11 record into postseason after finishing fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm.
The first game of the bottom half of the bracket on Friday features Davidson College and the University of Nevada. Davidson, an Atlantic 10 Conference representative, has a 16-14 overall record while the Wolfpack of Nevada from the Mountain West are 19-11. Tip for this game is set for 5:00 pm.
Friday’s final game features defending WBI champion Cleveland State University and Northeastern University. The Vikings from the Horizon League bring an 19-8 mark into the Clive M. Beck Center. A Colonial Athletic Conference member, Northeastern will be making it’s second WBI appearance.
