GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Davidson Wildcats scored eight first-quarter goals en route to their sixth straight victory on Wednesday evening, downing the ECU Pirates 18-8.

With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 6-0 and are just one of seven remaining undefeated teams in Division I women’s lacrosse. Davidson’s record also matches its 2019 start to the season, when the Wildcats had a program-best, six-win start to the year.

Davidson wasted no time in Greenville, as senior Emma Johnson got the Wildcats on the board with a give-and-go feed from Gianna New just 30 seconds into the game. With later scores from Grace Fahey, Erin Cookeand Lauren Arkell, the ‘Cats built a 5-0 lead less than 10 minutes in.

While ECU scored its first goal at the 5:30 mark, the ‘Cats responded with a goal from freshman Josie Lambert, and two more from Cooke and Julianne Carey to hang onto a dominant, 8-2 lead after one quarter of play.

Opening up the second frame, Cooke and New rattled off four-straight goals for the ‘Cats, earning Davidson a 10-goal lead, 12-2, and a running clock through much of the remaining quarter.

Davidson scored three-straight to open up the second half and eventually outscored the Pirates 5-4 over the final 30 minutes of play to run away with the victory.

On the day, netminder Amanda Monahan finished with 11 saves and New led offensively with 8 total points off five goals and three assists. Carey led the ‘Cats on the draw with six draw controls, in addition to Jane DiGregorio and Riley Moore each grabbing three apiece.
