by | Mar 21, 2022

Seniors Cassidy Gould and Sarah Konstans wrapped up their Wildcat careers at the WBI.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Davidson Wildcats sent their seniors, Cassidy Gould and Sarah Konstans, out with a win on Sunday afternoon, defeating Austin Peay for the second time this season, 66-58 on the final day of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.

With the win, the ‘Cats conclude the 2021-22 campaign with an 18-15 overall record, marking the most wins in a single season since 2012-13 and the most in Head Coach Gayle Fulks‘ tenure. The WBI Consolation Championship victory also marks the third postseason victory in program history.

Davidson led by as many as nine points, twice, during the first half on Sunday, before the Govs pulled within four of the ‘Cats, 31-27, with under four minutes to go in the frame. Tomisin Adenupe, who ended the day with 11 points and her second double-digit effort in as many days, hit a three with 3:44 on the clock that pushed the Wildcats ahead by seven, before Austin Peay pulled back within two before the end of the half, 36-34.

Rookie Issy Morgan started off the second half hot, draining two treys, along with a 3-pointer from Elle Sutphin, that put Davidson up 45-39 at the 5:52-mark. From there, the ‘Cats drove into a 12-4 run and built their largest lead of the day, up 14 at 57-43 with 10 minutes left to play.

Austin Peay fought through the fourth quarter and cut its deficit to six, but four Wildcat free throws down the stretch iced the Govs and secured the victory.

Morgan and Sutphin joined Adenupe in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Konstans scored nine.

The Wildcats ended the day shooting at a 51.3 percent clip from the floor, draining eight three’s and 18-22 free throws.
