CARY — Davidson pitcher Nolan DeVos has been named to the 44th Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, USA Baseball announced Tuesday afternoon.

DeVos, a junior right-hander, is among 45 of the nation’s top amateur players from the high school and college ranks — and the only one from the Atlantic 10 Conference — to be named to the watch list.

“This is a wonderful recognition for Nolan and his performance this season,” said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. “To be placed on this list is an honor, and Nolan is in great company. He’s worked hard to have this opportunity, and we expect he’ll continue to put himself in the best position possible to excel.”

The Wildcats’ Friday starter, DeVos is 5-1 in 42.0 innings and leads the A-10 with a 1.29 ERA (18th nationally), 65 strikeouts (9th nationally) and 13.93 strikeouts per nine innings (14th nationally). He’s posted an 0.90 WHIP, held opponents to a .190 batting average and has walked just nine for a 7.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

DeVos, from Harrisburg, struck out a career-best 13 in a 3-0 win over then-No. 25 Bryant on Feb. 25 and has struck out 11 in three other games this year after transitioning to a starting role. DeVos earned A-10 First Team honors last season as the league’s top closer (8 saves).

USA Baseball will announce award semifinalists May 24 and finalists on June 8 before the award is presented Friday, June 24 on ESPN.

“We are thrilled to recognize these 45 amateur athletes on the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list for their incredible performances throughout the first half of the 2022 season,” said Paul Seiler, USA Baseball’s Executive Director and CEO. “Each of these athletes has proven themselves worthy of consideration for this prestigious award through both their talent and character. We look forward to seeing what the rest of this exciting season holds before crowning the latest Golden Spikes Award winner in June.”
