“Silence in the Clouds” A Poem for Good Friday

by | Apr 15, 2022

Some thought it thunder
from heavy dark clouds
But broken hearts below
heard only silence
from a heaven that
seemed so empty

His broken self hanging
so alone with grief
could only cry out a
solitary plea,
“Why father…so forsaken”
No answer would come
for that day there was only
silence in the clouds

That unanswered question from
an only child
is for you when there
are no answers for
the unfair pain handed
to you by a life
full of joy but pain

God, yes there is one
endured a broken heart
that day of deep silence
Another way was not found
but divine silence
cut into mere words

If indeed there was thunder
that dark day
Listening you would have heard
words in the silence,
“I have taken on
your pain”

Then and only then the
Eternal One
heard his boy whisper,
“Father, it is accomplished”
