Baseball Completes Series Sweep at St. Bonaventure

by | Apr 18, 2022

Trevor Candelaria (#33) gets the entire team fired UP after one of his home runs during a previous game against Norfolk State.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Trevor Candelaria and Henry Koehler combined for eight hits and five RBIs, and Ryan Feczko tossed another gem as the Davidson baseball team beat St. Bonaventure 11-4 Saturday afternoon to complete its second Atlantic 10 Conference series sweep.

Now 28-6 overall, the Wildcats improved to 8-1 in league play and have won six straight and nine of their last 10.

In all, it’s the fifth series sweep of the season for the Wildcats, following Bryant, Norfolk State and Lafayette in non-conference play as well as A-10 foe Richmond.

“We did a nice job of being ready to play this weekend,” said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. “I was proud of how the team responded to some moving variables. We pitched very well throughout and did a nice job offensively as the weekend progressed. Parker Nolan had a big swing in Game 1, and we seemed to be in a good place after that.”

Feczko, who entered the day as one of just nine players nationally with seven wins, improved to 8-0 with another quality outing. He threw seven innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, while striking out five.

Candelaria and Koehler were each 4-for-6 at the plate. Candelaria had an RBI-single in the second and an RBI-double in the eighth, while Koehler plated two on a single in the four-run fourth inning and another on a single in the seventh.

Nolan got the Wildcats started Saturday with an RBI-double in the first, while Jacob Friend had RBI-singles in the fourth and ninth, and Ryan Wilson (3-for-5) had an RBI-single in the seventh.

Michael Carico drew three walks Saturday to give him seven in the series.

Bennett Flynn and Isaac Fix threw scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to end it.
